RPM Wizard is an installation program for RPM packages.
Using a wizard interface, it makes installing easy even for beginners.
With features such as automatic dependency handling, it aims to become
the most easy-to-use RPM installation program.
RPM Wizard is written in Python and uses
the PyQt bindings for the
Qt GUI toolkit.
It is Open Source and
available under the GNU General
Public License.
News
Apr 8th 2003: Mandrake 9.1 support
Thanks to Tim S. RPM Wizard now works nicely on the latest release
from MandrakeSoft. PyQt and sip packages and database packages for
Mandrake 9.1 can be found on the download page. If anyone has had
luck in getting RPM Wizard running on the new Redhat 9 I'd like to
hear about it. There seems to be a missing rpm404-python, which RPM Wizard
would need. I will install Redhat 9 at the end of the week and
have a closer look at the issue.
Feb 16th 2003: Website translated to French
This website is now also available in French. Very much thanks to the
translator Roméo VIU-BERGES. Other good news is
that RPM Wizard has been translated to Japanese and Brazilian Portuguese.
These translations will be in the next release.
Jan 24th 2003: RPM Wizard 0.7 released
A new stable release of RPM Wizard is out! This release is the first stable release
to include the feature to install from a list of packages on the distribution CD:s.
RPM Wizard is now fully internationalized and includes translations to French, German,
Spanish, Russian, Dutch, Finnish and Swedish. A lot of bugs have been fixed in this
release and RPM Wizard is now more stable than ever. A lot of thanks to the translators
Berndt Soderstrom, Grigory Bakunov, Christian Marker, Ludootje, Roméo VIU-BERGES
and Manuel Monteserin (see the CONTRIBUTORS file in the tarball for details).
Jan 13th 2003: Database for Icepack Linux 2.75
Thanks to Roméo VIU-BERGES there is now a database package
available for Icepack Linux 2.75. So go download it if you're running this great distribution.
Dec 22nd 2002: RPM Wizard 0.7 RC 1 released
The first release candidate of RPM Wizard 0.7 is out. RPM Wizard is now
fully translatable and this release includes translations to Swedish and Finnish (thanks to
Berndt Söderström for the Finnish translation).
Contributions of translations to other languages would be much appreciated.
Read below on how to help.
Oct 25th 2002: RPM Wizard 0.6.9 released
A new development release is out. RPM Wizard 0.6.9 adds better support for
Redhat 8.0 and improves the feature to install packages from a list of distribution
packages.
Oct 14th 2002: Mandrake 9.0 supported
Mandrake 9.0 is now fully supported. On the download
page you can find the database for this new distribution and PyQt packages which
are needed to get RPM Wizard working. Both the 0.6/0.6.1 and 0.6.8 versions should
work fine on Mandrake 9.0.
Oct 7th 2002: Redhat 8.0 supported
A new stable version of RPM Wizard is out. The 0.6.1 release
adds support for Redhat 8.0. That is the only change in this release.
No need to upgrade if you are using 0.6 on another distribution.
There is also now a database package available for Redhat 8.0.
Support for Mandrake 9.0 is next on my TODO list.
Sep 23rd 2002: RPM Wizard 0.6.8 released
This is a development release and is expected to have some bugs so test it and report any problems you encounter.
I also appreciate comments on the new features and how RPM Wizard could be made better and more easy to use.
The main feature of this release is a new installation method. You
can now install packages from your distribution CDs by choosing the package name from a list, i.e.
you don't have to know on which CD the package is, just pick the name from the list and you will
be prompted for the appropriate CD.
Sep 18th 2002: We have moved...
This project has moved to SourceForge.net. We thank SourceForge
for the free hosting.
Aug 17th 2002: Updated database for Mandrake 8.1
Thanks to Jaco Witsche the database RPM for Mandrake 8.1
is now complete. Go download it if you're running Mandrake 8.1!
Like most other Open Source projects RPM Wizard would also appreciate some help.
You don't need to know how to program.
Here's a list of some things you can do:
- create a database for your system if it's
not supported yet. See the Download page for details.
- translate RPM Wizard to another language. Use the file rpmwiz_newlanguage.ts from the
latest tarball of RPM Wizard, open it in Qt Linguist and just translate! It's very easy
and I can help you if you're having some problems.
- test and report bugs
- tell me your opinion on how you think RPM Wizard could
be made more easy to use
Just drop me an email.
